Typically Styrian … friendly and cosy … nature pure in the green heart of Austria
This is a promise, not just a slogan. Take us at our word. We are hosts in the traditional sense, which means that we offer our guests a warm and personal welcome, accompany them to the most beautiful holiday sites and cook for them morning and evening. We want to be a hotel with a soul. We believe that this is what guests may expect from a hotel run by a three-generation family.
Traditional values & roots
Günter is the all-round host. Ingrid is the „heart and soul“ of the house and responsible for the physical well-being of our guests. The young are eager to help whenever their assistance is needed and school permits them to do so. And, last but not least, we could not do without the help of grandma and grandpa. Our tradition, origin, careful approach to the countryside and natural life, openness to new ideas and experiences, friendliness and hospitality, and our commitment to be there and care for our guests with our hearts and souls are the sources of our philosophy.
The Druschhof is more than 400 years old
The oldest documentary evidence mentioning the Druschhof dates back to the 16th century and refers to a certain „Christian Drusch“. The Druschhof was then servient to Gstatt and the Propstei (provostship) of the monastery of Admont. The hotel's history mentions the name Rettenbacher for the first time in 1896. From an etymological point of view, "Drusch" seems to have originated from the Middle High German "dreschen" (threshing, i.e. the act of beating cereal in order to separate the grains from the rest of the plant). The farm's coat of arms handed down over time also points to this kind of activity. The further heraldic symbolism of a crown (= victory, sovereignty), a blue shield (= steadfastness, strength, fidelity), gold/yellow (= reputation, virtue, majestic dignity) is of particular interest in this respect.
Mystery between yesterday and today
The coat of arms' origin cannot be clearly determined. It is likely to have dated back to a time when there were ties to nobility and might even go back to the Late Middle Ages. It is noteworthy that the same coat of arms can be seen also in the Unteral valley (at the Tetter hotel) where the name Rettenbacher was mentioned for the first time in 1678. When doing research, one comes across a certain Anton Rettenbacher who was mentioned around 1862 as great benefactor to the Evangelical Church. This history might not play a significant role today, but for us as a family it is nevertheless an exciting venture to reflect upon it and to delve into the mysterious, mythical past.
We mainly serve regional dishes
Our own organic farm offers healthy and tasty food, such as beef and lamb. Venison, chamois and deer served by us come from our own hunting ground, i.e. pristine nature. Many of the carefully selected dishes are based on granny's cookbook and Ingrid's fragrant and tasty recipes. We prepare all dishes on the same day and adjust them to the season. Our homemade jam is very popular with our guests. Our rowan berry schnapps also comes from the region.
Varied Druschhof half board cuisine
Our healthy and regional half board cuisine covers a wide range of typically Austrian and popular international dishes, including vegetarian, dietary and wholefood/organic dishes. The „Druschhof half board cuisine“ includes: a rich breakfast buffet, a four-course dinner with a choice of three main courses, a daily fresh salad bar and dessert. During our summer tours up to the mountain pastures, chops and char-grilled sausages are served at the various chalets.
